The fourth Eastern Partnership summit is held in Riga, Latvia, on 21-22 May 2015. EU leaders are going to meet representatives of the EaP partner countries to reconfirm the importance of relationship between the EU and it’s Eastern partners. The summit is the opportunity to demonstrate EU’s commitment to pursue closer relations with its independent and sovereign Eastern partners.
The summit is chaired by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk who, together with the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, will represent the European Union.
Leaders will reaffirm importance of reforms and the support of the European Union in their implementation. The topics to be discussed are: promoting the rule of law,enforcing state building and helping partner countries to strengthen institutions and their resilience to external challenges; developing emerging market opportunities, with a particular focus on the digital economy; energy security and improving the interconnections; increasing mobility and contacts between people.
Among the topics of high importance is also resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. EU leaders will strive to de–escalation and to a political solution of the crisis in Ukraine, and the peaceful settlement of other unresolved conflicts in the region.
